SNAPSHOTS OF CORNWALL WITH LILY BERTRAND-WEBB
Having made the move from London to Port Isaac earlier this year, photographer Lily Bertrand-Webb gives us a snapshot of her new Cornish life
How did you decide Cornwall was the right place for you?
I grew up visiting North Cornwall for summer holidays. My father had a ‘mid life crisis’ and discovered surfing when I was six years old, and since then dragged us to his surfing trips, which I am very thankful now of course!
Tell us about your favourite places around Port Isaac? What drew you here in particular
Love! I met my partner at my New Years Eve party in Cornwall. He lives in Port Isaac and basically fished me out. I grew up spending my summer holidays in St. Agnes so was familiar of North Cornwall before. Port Isaac is a special coastal fishing town. Small and quaint, with stunning views and lovely coastal walks.
What is it about the Cornish way of life you are most excited to embrace?
I love the simple (and quiet!) way of life living by the sea and the country. It’s a special sanctuary place surrounded by vibrant colours. I’m constantly inspired by its tranquil landscapes. It allows me to gather my thoughts and dreams without any of the modern day distractions.
You’ve already explored much of Cornwall in your photography, is there a part of the coast that inspires you most?
St. Agnes, where I spent my summer holidays growing up and know very well. It remains untouched and yet I’m always discovering new things.
How do you think the move will evolve your work?
Already inspired by the Cornish way of life, I know the move will help me develop my photographic art practise. The simple day to day routine of swimming, walking, gardening will balance well with working in my studio. It will help me slow down and appreciate life’s simple delights!
You’ve got 48 hours with friends visiting for the weekend, where will you be taking them?
Four Boys in Rock, my friends amazing restaurant. Run by a family of four brothers, with exquisite beach views. The food is delicious with seasonal recipes. They also do delicious cocktails, perfect with their stunning Sunset
Favourite hotel?
I have yet to but I’ve heard wonderful things about The Pig at Harlyn Bay
Favourite campsite?
Any hidden gems to share?
Ohhh that would be telling. I encourage everyone to download the walking app and go on hiking adventures. Best secret beaches are usually found exploring. It’s the best feeling exploring secret spots!
Plans for the rest of the year?
Road tripping around Cornwall!
